JSR 170 for Vignette Content Management (VCM)
Lean Management Group is proud to announce its JSR 170 implementation for Vignette Content Management (VCM).
JSR 170 or Content Repository API aim to provide a
common programmatic interface for vendors offering proprietary content repositories. Using these APIs to create
content application would allow customers to swap content repositories without impacting their applications.
JSR 170 specification has been split into two compliance levels as
well as a set of optional features. Level 1 defines a read-only repository. This includes:
- functionality for the reading of repository content
- introspection of content-type definitions
- basic support for namespaces
- export of content to XML and searching.
Level 2 additionally defines methods for writing content,
assignment of types to content, further support for namespaces,
and importing content from XML.
Finally, a number of independently optional features are defined
that a compliant repository may support. These are transactions,
versioning, observation, access control, locking and additional
support for searching.
JSR 170 for VCM implements Level 1 specification, allowing customers to build applications that read the content
from VCM repository, while VCM management interface would still be used to manage the content lifecycle. This combination
of creating delivery application in JSR-170 and managing the content lifecycle in VCM would give customers best of both
worlds, as VCM provides rich interface to manage your content which requires mostly configuration, while delivery applications
tend to be more code heavy and you can protect your coding investment by using JSR-170 APIs. This
implementation has been tested against VCM 7.3.1, VCM 7.4 and VCM 7.5.
