Web Strategy

Web is ubiquitous, everyone is talking about it (just search for "Web is ubiquitous" and you will be surprised to see a long list of conferences that have happened or are happening on the subject). What does it mean? It could mean different things to different people, but in the end all agree on one basic principle, access to information from anywhere, anytime and catered to a person's needs.

Creating an effective Web Strategy for a company means allowing the company's constituents (employees, customers, partners and shareholders) to access relevant information easily while abiding by its information security framework. This information could be available on the Internet, Intranet or Extranet. Once you know your audience, you would have to cater your web presence according to their needs. For instance an employee may need access to multiple applications within the Intranet, but a customer coming to your public website would want information about you products and offerings presented as a seamless web-experience or else they could jump to your competitor's public website.

On the face of it web-strategy may seem to be simple thing to put together; but as you define the target audience, identify and classify content, seelect web applications, think through the publishing/approval workflow for your site and decide upon the right security framework, the complexities begin to add up very quickly.
